Haitian Dance Fitness Program
Tout moun vin sou tè a ak nan yon gouyad.
Everyone arrives on earth with a gouyad.
Gouyad se youn nan bagay nan lavi ou pa bezwen pare pou li.
Gouyad is one of those things in life you don't need to prepare for.
Si w pa fèl nan kò, fèl nan tèt.
If you don't do it in the body, do it in the mind.
Depi kilè ou gouye a moun ou?
Since when do you move for someone else?

Program Foundation
High-energy intervals driven by Konpa rhythms. Squats, hip circles, and lateral shifts build functional strength while keeping your heart rate elevated. Your body becomes the drum.
The soul of Gouyad. Hip articulation — side to side, figure-8, anba — is both art and therapy. We isolate, flow, and layer movement until the wave lives in you naturally.
Gouyad is not performance — it is presence. Breathwork, embodiment exercises, and connection practices build the inner authority that makes every movement magnetic.
Session Blueprint
Body & Mind
"Gouye anba lavi nan tout dimansyon l." — Dance in all dimensions of life below
Konpa-driven intervals raise and sustain your heart rate in a joyful, non-punishing way. You sweat because you feel alive, not because you're suffering.
Gouyad squats (anba position), pulse holds, and resistance hip work build glutes, hamstrings, and inner thighs without a gym. The deeper you go, the stronger you become.
Isolated hip articulation, figure-8s, and wave sequences unlock the pelvis, relieve tension stored in the hips, and awaken coordination that daily life suppresses.
Controlled breathing patterns sync with movement to build core stability, reduce cortisol, and enter the rhythm state where Gouyad flows without thought.
Gouyad teaches you to inhabit your body fully — slow down, feel the music, and move from the inside out. Confidence is not performed; it is practiced until it becomes skin.
Cultural Roots
Gouyad is not a trend. It is the living inheritance of Haitian movement — from Konpa ballrooms to street celebrations, from carnival to the intimate embrace of two people who need no words.
The foundational rhythm of Haitian social dance. Created in the 1950s, Konpa's steady, syncopated beat is the heartbeat of Gouyad — the pulse everything moves against.
Rooted in African movement traditions brought to Haiti, the hip-centric vocabulary of Gouyad is ancient, grounded, and deeply communal. Bodies in conversation with the earth.
Contemporary fusions expand Gouyad's musical world — from classic méringue to modern Kompa artists — keeping the tradition alive and evolving for every generation.
" Depi kilè ou gouye a moun ou? GOUYAD MATTERS. Move for yourself. Move because you are here. Move because your body already knows the way — it just needs permission. "
